Registered Social Worker
Kyla Lipsman, MA RSW

Taking the first step toward therapy can be challenging and overwhelming. My goal is to provide a safe and supportive space where you can feel comfortable sharing any challenges you may be facing.

I work from a strengths-based perspective, guided by cognitive behavioural, emotionally focused and mindfulness-based therapeutic approaches. The therapy plan and goals will be catered to what works best for each individual and that can involve a variety of styles.

Whether it's depression, anxiety, relationship issues, or managing stress – we can work together to empower you to modify those thoughts and behaviours that are no longer serving you.

I offer evening and weekend availability and look forward to connecting with you to begin your journey of healing.

What is Counselling?

People seek out counselling and other forms of therapy because they are facing life challenges and are looking to find solutions. Therapy can bring a new perspective to the difficulties you are experiencing and can provide you with the direction and confidence to achieve your goals.

Psychotherapy and social work are forms of counselling proven to increase happiness, improve motivation and help you to better understand yourself and the world around you. Therapy can also help to:

  • Provide you with new perspective into your thoughts, feelings and actions
  • Improve your self-worth, confidence and self-esteem
  • Teach you effective coping strategies and new ways of thinking
  • Speed up your healing
  • Assist you in identifying your strengths, values and beliefs
  • Improve your relationships with others
  • Practice new skills and strategies for dealing with life challenges
  • Regain a sense of hope and direction
  • Create change and construct new possibilities

Psychotherapy and social work are terms that encompass many different therapeutic frameworks and modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Brief Solution-Focused Therapy, Talk Therapy, Family Therapy, and Emotion-Focused Therapy. Counselling can be performed by a number of professionals including Registered Social Workers, Psychologists, Psychiatrists, and Psychotherapists. Social work and psychotherapy services are covered under some group benefit plans.

In working together, your therapist will draw on their clinical knowledge and training and will work with you from a collaborative framework with the assumption that you are the expert in your life and will strive to understand your experience from your perspective. Counselling helps to empower you to achieve your goals and teach you new skills and strategies that are proven to help you cope more effectively with life’s challenges. In engaging in counselling, you may find that you begin to recognize your strengths, values and potential and start to develop a new perspective on your current situation.

Counselling can help children, adolescents, adults and couples of all ages overcome challenges including depression, sadness, loneliness, anxiety, panic, fear, shame, self-esteem or shyness, motivation, life transitions, personal development, stress management and relationship problems.
