Chiropractic for Wrist Pain

Chiropractic for Wrist Pain

You never really know how important something is until you can’t use it anymore, and our hands definitely remind us of their importance when we feel wrist pain! In the past, usually caused by arthritis or trauma (eg a sports injury or a fall), wrist pain can now just as commonly be found as part of a repetitive strain injury. Carpal tunnel syndrome and different type of tendonitis in your wrist can come from using your hand in a certain position an excessive amount. First mostly seen in teachers (who used to write a lot on blackboards) and construction workers (who repeat a lot of the same movements with tools), now repetitive strain injuries are often found on people who use a keyboard or mouse a great deal in their work. Chiropractic for wrist pain can be surprisingly effective!

What does wrist pain feel like?

Usually a dull ache in your wrist when caused by arthritis, this area of pain can get quite dramatic if left untreated. And if the pain seems more nerve-related (eg you feel stabbing, burning or prickling sensations that may even travel up your arm), then it might mean you have an inflamed carpal tunnel. (Your carpal tunnel, by the way, is the tendon-sheath that runs through your wrist, protecting your tendons but also impinging on them when irritated.)

What is chiropractic for wrist pain?

Although we think of chiropractors as neck and back doctors, they can also help us with the rest of our bodies as well. Naturally, the way in which your chiropractor will treat you will depend largely on how your wrist pain first started. With arthritic pain or pain caused by trauma, your chiropractor will need to assess your wrist to see if they think there has been a fracture or not. If there is no fracture, then they may be able to move a bone in your wrist that has become stuck, and thus relieve your pain that way.

If your wrist pain is related to repetitive strain, then your chiropractor may want to do a more thorough assessment of your neck and back to determine if any vertebrae are out of place, affecting your posture and contributing to a misalignment that has lead to your wrist pain.
