Chiropractic Care for Low Back Pain
Low back pain is one of the most common complaints amongst patients seeking chiropractic treatment in wellness clinics such as Yellow Gazebo. The reason for this, is of course that chiropractic adjustment can be so effective in treating this issue! Essentially, adjusting the spine at the level of your low back is meant to realign your vertebrae so that your nerves and muscles will work normally again, pain free.
Because the work a chiropractor does is safe and non-invasive, you can be assured that your needs will be met by first having you answer some important questions about your low back pain. Then some tests may be performed, and only after this will your chiropractor determine how to proceed with treatment. You may be asked to perform some exercises or lifestyle adjustments, so be prepared for homework!
Before doing any type of adjusting, your chiropractor at Yellow Gazebo will more than likely do some soft tissue work, either with their hands or some type of medical instrument that mimics a massage. This helps your muscles relax so that adjustment is easier. As for the type of adjustment required for low back pain, this may involve “cracking” your back (aka “high velocity low amplitude thrust” technique), if you’re comfortable with trying it. Other types of adjustments may be called for, such as manipulations of your hips or legs to help realign your low back. Sometimes your chiropractor may even suggest heat therapy, or the use of a cold laser. Our chiropractors are even trained in acupuncture, which can help tremendously with low back pain in the right circumstances.
Your chiropractor may also look at the rest of your spine, as chiropractors want to make sure everything is aligned properly. This helps prevent more issues like mid-back or neck pain from becoming an issue once your low back pain is resolved. You may want to visit for a follow up or two after your first session, depending on the severity of your pain and the length of time you’ve had this issue.
If you find that chiropractic care really speaks to you, be sure to ask lots of questions - there are many ways that chiropractic can become a regular part of being healthy and taking care of yourself.
