Fascial Stretch Therapy
What is Fascia?
Fascia is a connective tissue that fills in all the empty spaces in your body. It surrounds and links your skin, muscles, blood vessels, bones, joints, and nerves, creating a network of kinetic chains that connect your head to your toes. These fascial lines play a crucial role in posture, strength, stability, and flexibility.
Chronic tension, lack of movement, and postural strain can cause fascia to thicken and become restricted, limiting mobility and creating discomfort. For optimal movement and posture, the layers of fascia need to glide smoothly over one another.
How Does Fascial Stretch Therapy Work?
At Yellow Gazebo, Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST) is performed by a registered massage therapist and is therefore covered by insurance. FST is a form of assisted stretching designed to release and mobilize muscles and fascia—not just in isolated areas, but throughout the entire body. Sessions are performed with the client fully clothed, using a strap to secure one leg to the table for stability.
What Makes FST Different from Traditional Stretching?
- It uses comfortable, relaxed positions rather than forceful stretching.
- It incorporates traction and specific positioning to target and mobilize joint capsules.
- It focuses on full fascial chains rather than individual muscles.
- It integrates breathing techniques and slow, undulating movements to positively influence the nervous system.
FST can provide numerous benefits, including reduced pain, stress relief, improved sleep quality, better posture, enhanced range of motion, and improved athletic performance.
A session of Fascial Stretch Therapy can feel like a combination of a deep stretch and a therapeutic massage. It works on muscles, nerves, and fascia simultaneously, often leaving you feeling lighter, more mobile, and even taller after treatment.
What to Wear for Your Session
To get the most out of your FST session, we recommend wearing comfortable, stretchy clothing that allows for ease of movement. Ideal options include:
- T-shirt or tank top
- Sweatpants, shorts, or yoga pants
This will ensure you can fully relax and allow your therapist to move your body through a complete range of motion.
