Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy for Pain
Pelvic pain is suffered by millions of people around the world, and yet few people are aware of the great benefits that can be had by pelvic floor physiotherapy. And although the direct cause of your pelvic floor dysfunction that is causing you pain may not be known by your doctor, this does not mean that you cannot potentially find relief from pelvic floor physiotherapy for pain treatment.
Pelvic floor dysfunction in general, comes from either a weak or a tight pelvic floor, so exercise that tightens these muscles is not necessarily a cure for the pain. A pelvic floor specialist such as our own Nancy Lu can properly assess your condition and determine your best course of treatment.
Some examples of potentially treatable pelvic pain include:
- interstitial cystitis
- levator ani syndrome
- pudendal neuralgia
- pain with intercourse
What Does a Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy Session Entail?
After filling out the proper form to register you as a patient, you'll meet with Nancy Lu, our pelvic floor physiotherapist. Nancy will discuss with you the information you've provided, and will ask any pertinent questions that might help her develop the right plan to suggest. The treatment plan may involve exercise instruction and other advice to help you modify your lifestyle in order to help with your concerns. Nancy may also suggest manual (hands-on) techniques that she can perform on you. These techniques work on the muscles in your pelvis to help locate and treat tight or weak tissues.
