How To Relieve Hip Pain
Hip pain can be troublesome because it can lead to a lot of different back and knee problems, not to mention foot and ankle issues as well (plus more!). If you suffer from any hip pain know that we might be able to help! Keep reading to learn how.
What causes hip pain?
Your hip pain could also be related to low back pain if your sacroiliac joint is involved, and could be related to leg, knee or foot/ankle pain if the pain is related to the hip joint proper, ie where your femur bone articulates with your pelvic bone. Hip pain can also cause referral pain into your buttocks, groin, or thigh, and can be felt more on the inside or the outside of your hip joint.
Your hip joint is a ball-and-socket joint and is exceptionally stable compared to your shoulder joint (which is also a ball-and-socket joint), but lacks the mobility of your shoulder. Your hip joint is covered with larger muscles that attach to the bones via tendons, and cartilage inside the joint provides cushioning needed for running and walking. It’s the same case with your shoulder joint, but the muscles in your hips have comparably more surface area and thus provide more stability.
When you have pain in your hip it’s often because of arthritis, though it can also be due to bursitis, tendonitis, muscle strain and a few other issues. Be sure to see a Yellow Gazebo chiropractor or physiotherapist for a diagnosis you can rely on. Our goal is always to get you better quickly, so that you can get back to living your life.
How can we treat your hip pain?
Heat is often the recommended way to treat hip pain at home. Heat can be applied via an electric heating pad, hot water bottle, infrared heating lamp, and so on. Heat is a great way to manage pain as it encourages blood flow to the painful area and can help facilitate healing.
Exercising the right way and knowing what exercises to do can also go a long way to managing your hip pain. Seeing one of our trained acupuncturists, massage therapists, osteopaths after or along with seeing a YG chiro or physio will help you learn the right stretches and strengthening exercises to get you on the right path to feeling better.
