Chiropractic for Knee Pain
Yes, chiropractors treat much more than neck and back pain. If you’ve read any of my previous points on joint issues and chiropractic care, you’ve seen me say that many times! And if you’ve never read one of my chiropractic-based blogs before, then this is certainly good news for you - chiropractic for knee pain can be a tremendous relief for you if you’ve been suffering and not had much luck with other methods of pain relief that you’ve tried until now.
What causes knee pain?
Knee pain can obviously be caused by some kind of injury, i.e. athletic or otherwise, but can also be caused by factors such as arthritis, gout, or even some kind of infection (although infection is an uncommon cause). Your symptoms may include the pain itself along with swelling, redness, weakness, popping or crunching sounds (aka “crepitus”), or difficulty in extending and/or flexing your leg.
Seeing a chiropractor is a safe bet for knee pain as they are primary health care providers and are legally allowed to diagnose and assess you as federal and provincial regulations demand. And if you need more care, e.g. with further testing, they can tell you whether or not there is a need.
Basically, your knee is made of the following components:
- The tibiofemoral joint (joins your thigh bone to your larger lower-leg bone)
- The patello-femoral joint (joins your kneecap to your thigh bone)
- Various muscles and ligaments
- Two menisci (which protect and cushion the bones of your knee)
So any pain in your knee will naturally involve one or more of these components, and your chiropractor at Yellow Gazebo will be able to properly assess and diagnose your knee pain to determine the best course of treatment.
Why chiropractic for knee pain?
A chiropractor can be an excellent person to see for knee pain because they will look at your knee in relation to the rest of your body. Your knee is not a single part in a machine that runs independently of every other part - your knee is connected fairly closely with your foot and ankle, your hip, low back and your pelvis as well. It is important to seek the help of a qualified professional to treat knee pain, because your whole body can potentially be playing a part.
The different methods your YG chiropractor might use to treat your knee pain include some massage around the knee, various mobilization techniques, and possibly even some acupuncture or cold laser therapy. All of these methods can help reduce inflammation in the area that might be causing or contributing to your pain and discomfort, and your chiropractor will know which method(s) is/are most appropriate to your particular case.
